For the 75th anniversary of Enid Blytons first Famous Five book, starting a series of timeless classics, all 21 are being republished, with new covers by Laura Ellen Anderson. To help capture this new audience, Kuato Studios, known for their hugely successful Dino Tails children’s Apps were tasked with creating a mystery game book to go with the republications.
We worked with Kuato to bring these new interpretations to life. The stylized nature of the characters meant Kuato wanted the movement to be equally stylized akin to that of stop-motion. Stop motion 3D isn’t that common in a real time game environment so it was both interesting an challenging from both an artistic and technical standpoint.
After multiple style tests Kuato was happy with the direction we ultimately settled on and we crafted a workflow to support this for our animators in Maya right through to Unity implementation.
